BTR Panel: On the Road to 10G: Where Are We?

Thursday, Oct 14 | 11 AM – Noon EDT | Register

This panel will discuss the current state of 10G progress from the perspective of technological maturity and deployment strategy. We’ll look at the current state of DOCSIS technology evolution, where Distributed Access Architecture roll outs stand, the role fiber and next-generation PON technology might play, and how operator strategy should take these parameters into account.

Top 5 Industry Trends

Advanced Upstream/R-PHY

Demand for bandwidth, especially in the upstream, is growing at an unprecedented rate to support new usage models and applications.   Operators are deploying multiple new technologies to keep up including OFDM-A, frequency extensions, mid-split, high split, and distributed access architectures like Remote PHY.

FTTH / PON - 1G to 10G Evolution

In order to meet capacity demands more 10G PON services (like 10G-EPON or XGS-PON) are being deployed than ever before, while meeting coverage (homes passed) requirements. PON design is moving to higher split ratios with cascaded and clustered splitters or even new un-balanced splitter architectures. In order to launch and install services on time, the first time, operators need to ensure PON networks are properly built and certified from day-one with smart tools that make technicians instant fiber test experts with minimal training or experience.

DWDM for 5G, DAA, Remote PHY and Business Services

DWDM technology has been well adopted in long-haul transmissions for decades. With the growing need for bandwidth driven by data-hungry applications and business services DWDM technology has now found its way into access networks; CATV operators migrating to and deploying Remote-PHY, DWDM enabled business services or 5G backhaul and Wireless operators moving to DWDM for CRAN front hauls or as part of 5G deployment preparation. All require a simple way to validate routes to connect new customers and to troubleshoot faulty links in a timely manner without disrupting existing services.

Converged Interconnect Network

The cable industry continues to innovate around network usage models with initiatives like DAA, PON, and mobile fronthaul/backhaul. These next-generation networks are going to support a dynamic mix of 10GE and higher line rates in addition to meeting the strict network timing requirements for applications such as low latency asymmetry. Whether it be for spawning a remote OLT (R-OLT) from a DAA node or supporting mobile xHaul, the proper design and deployment of the underlying networks is critical to optimizing the performance of these services.
