JDS Uniphase to buy Network Instruments for $200M

JDS Uniphase to acquire Network Instruments for $200 million in cash

JDS Uniphase Corp., a maker of testing equipment for communications networks, said Wednesday that it plans to buy privately-held Network Instruments for $200 million in cash.

JDS Uniphase, which is based in Milpitas, Calif., said the deal will expand its business into the enterprise, data center and cloud markets. Minnetonka, Minn.-based Network Instruments develops network management products. It has 125 employees and had annual revenue of about $40 million in the past year.

The deal is expected to close within 45 days and increase JDS Uniphase's adjusted earnings starting in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Shares of JDS Uniphase slipped 13 cents to $12.19 in afternoon trading Wednesday.
