400G Test and Measurement Ready for New Challenges Ahead

  • Dr. Paul Brooks
  • High-Speed Transport Product Line Manager
  • Tuesday, 19 September, 15:30-16:00

400G Ethernet is close to standardization and we are already seeing successful, exciting results from early field trials. Many of the novel aspects of 400G Ethernet pose significant test and measurement challenges and this presentation highlights the revolutionary aspects of 400G technology and how it drives new concepts in test and measurement. From PAM-4 modulation in the electrical and optical domain to the challenges of validating margin in FEC based links the presentation explores how the T&M community within the Ethernet alliance is ready to take 400G to widespread and pain-free deployment.

Data Centre Cable Infrastructure

  • Guylain Barlow
  • Metro Product Line Manager
  • Tuesday, 19 September, 16:00-16:35

Data Centers vary widely in nature and can be roughly classified as hyperscale, multi-tenant, and private. A critical and common component in the operation of such data centers is the installation and maintenance of the physical cabling infrastructure. A fundamental change taking place is the evolution from cables using classic connectors on copper (RJ-45) or fiber optics (LC) to cables terminated by pluggables such as SFP or QSFP. This represents a new challenge as these cables, called Active Optical Cable (AOC) or Direct Attach Copper (DAC), are not easily validated and tested. This talk will cover the evolution of operational requirements, how to reduce costs by validating cables before installation, and how to apply meaningful methods to ensure cable reliability to safely transfer data within the data center.
