Fighting Fiber with Fiber: Cable’s Fiber Buildout Plans - Presented by Light Reading

Wednesday, October 14, 2020: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT | Watch on Demand

For the third straight year, Light Reading and Heavy Reading have teamed up with SCTE•ISBE, along with five major industry vendors, to produce a comprehensive study of  cable operators’ fiber buildout plans, strategies and challenges. In this live webcast, we will present the results of that third annual survey and look at where cable is seeking to go with fiber as the industry pursues its ambitious 10G quest. In particular, we will delve into cable operators’ intentions for installing more fiber in their plant, tapping into such related technologies as DAA, PON and 5G, and monetizing their fiber investments.

Fiber Construction Workshop

Thursday, October 15 | 1:30 PM EST – 3:30 PM EST | Watch on Demand

Learn the industry best practices for fiber testing, fiber certification, and workflow efficiencies to deliver a more reliable network in a shorter period.  The session will conclude with an expert industry leader virtual panel discussion.

Who should attend:

  • Field Tech Managers
  • Network Technicians
  • Contractors
  • Others interested in fiber construction

Top 5 Industry Trends

Advanced Upstream/R-PHY

Demand for bandwidth, especially in the upstream, is growing at an unprecedented rate to support new usage models and applications.   Operators are deploying multiple new technologies to keep up including OFDM-A, frequency extensions/split changes, and distributed access architectures like Remote PHY.

FTTH / PON - 1G to 10G Evolution

In order to meet capacity demands more 10G PON services (like 10G-EPON or XGS-PON) are being deployed than ever before, while meeting coverage (homes passed) requirements. PON design is moving to higher split ratios with cascaded and clustered splitters or even new un-balanced splitter architectures. In order to launch and install services on time, the first time, operators need to ensure PON networks are properly built and certified from day-one with smart tools that make technicians instant fiber test experts with minimal training or experience.

Remote Test

Truck roll reduction continues to be a strategic goal for service providers, but recently risk has replaced cost as the primary driver.  Even when the current situation has faded any opportunity to replace a physical dispatch with a virtual alternative will be welcomed by both service providers and customers.

Generic Access Platform (GAP)

The cable industry continues to innovate with initiatives like GAP and CIN in support of initiatives like DAA, PON, and mobile fronthaul/backhaul. These next-generation networks are going to support a dynamic mix of 10GE and higher line rates in addition to meeting the strict network timing requirements for applications such as low latency asymmetry. The proper design and deployment of the underlying networks is critical to optimizing the performance of these services.

Test Process Automation (TPA)

Maintaining high-quality network service requires reliable fault detection and continuous improvement.  The TPA Suite enables you to deploy automated, technician friendly procedures and reporting at a job, team, or network level. The VIAVI StrataSync TPA Suite eases major technology transformations, like DWDM, DAA, PON or 5G by helping:

  • Service providers launch and maintain their networks with ease
  • Contractors to close out jobs and settle payment quickly
  • NEMs to achieve acceptance the first time
