KT Selects VIAVI’s xSIGHT Customer Experience Analytics for NFV Open Lab

MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, Barcelona, Spain, February 28, 2017 – VIAVI Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) today announced that KT, South Korea’s largest telecommunications service provider, has selected the xSIGHT Customer Experience Assurance (CEA) platform to support collaborative development of innovative network technologies and services.

As a visionary pioneer in telecommunications, KT is developing next-generation networks, and is planning to deliver 5G services at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018. The company is committed to implementing innovative network technologies to meet the complex and contradictory requirements of 5G and IoT—such as massive data processing, as well as varying bandwidth and latency for different devices and applications—on one network. KT’s strategy centers on software-defined infrastructure (SDI), and the carrier has launched the SDI Open Eco Alliance to encourage industry collaboration to develop, standardize, and test SDI core technologies in all areas of infrastructure from core network to access network, and to realize next-generation enterprise information and communications services.

In addition, KT recently inaugurated the NFV Open Lab at its Woo-myon facility in Seocho-gu, Seoul to foster collaboration among companies such as Cisco, HPE, Samsung and VIAVI. As new network technologies and services are explored in the lab, VIAVI’s xSIGHT will provide analytics on impact to customer experience, ensuring that innovations and adaptations drive toward the ultimate objective of any network. xSIGHT is VIAVI’s customer experience assurance portfolio including an analytics platform fed by agents distributed throughout the network. The agents—deployable as physical units or virtual functions—passively analyze traffic in real time, build network and application performance metrics and selectively store traffic for troubleshooting purposes.

“The paradigm shift from hardware to software is taking place in network infrastructure due to the 5G and IoT era. We have established the NFV Open Lab to create a vital ecosystem for software-defined network innovation,” said Han Won-sik, SCM Strategic Manager, KT. “We hope to provide partners with a platform to not only test and prove out new technologies, but to discover opportunities for business growth.”

“We applaud KT’s leadership in laying the foundation for 5G and IoT, and are pleased to be invited to collaborate in the NFV Open Lab,” said Sameh Yamany, Chief Technology Officer, VIAVI Solutions. “Multiple cloud-based network functions can be automated and programmed to meet different use cases across entire end-to-end connections; yet mobile operators don’t currently have the infrastructure to take advantage of this. KT and its partners are addressing these needs rapidly and collaboratively to ensure readiness for 5G as early as 2018.”
