When do you use Short versus Standard on the SYSTEM>SETTING>UTILITY>TALKSET/DATALINK RANGE setting of the Viavi MTS/TB8000?
It is recommended that the user always start in the STANDARD setting. The software will advise the user if the level is too hot and request them to switch to SHORT. You usually need around 10 miles of fiber to get enough natural attentuation for the normal STANDARD setting but it is still recommended that user always start in STANDARD.
