September 21, 2015 — Today, VIAVI Solutions announces the availability of additional interface options for the PacketPortal JMEP and Intelligence Visibility (PP-IV) families of intelligent, small form factor pluggable transceivers (SFPs). VIAVI’s intelligent SFPs address the unique requirements for activating and performance monitoring next-generation Ethernet and IP services used for mobile backhaul, business services, and cloud networking in a small form factor package.
With the new EtherAssure release 10.5 and the addition of the new 1 GE EX, ZX and 1000BASE-T copper/RJ-45 and synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) enabled intelligent SFPs, VIAVI is providing additional optical- and copper-based interface options and extraction of SyncE synchronization/clocking. With the new SyncE-enabled JMEP and PP-IV intelligent SFPs, customers may now transport synchronization/clocking signaling from a master clock source to network resources over either a copper or fiber interface. Nodes that require an upgrade to SyncE and do not have a master clock source can utilize JMEP and PP-IV intelligent SFPs which have SyncE capability in a standalone mode.
SyncE signaling supports several applications including:
- Mobile networks
- Access technologies such as Ethernet passive optical networks
