What does splice detection AUTO mean in OTDR setup?

In the Viavi OTDR setup screens for DETECTION>SPLICE, what does the value of AUTO do?
Splice detection of AUTO uses a predetermined value of .05db. When using auto, splices less than that value will not display in the event table.
