Which has more impact on 802.11 performance: Co-Channel interference or Adjacent Channel Interfence?
Co-Channel interferers are 802.11 devices that are using the same channel as the subject 802.11 network. Adjacent interferers are devices that operate in channels outside the subject network's channel, but which overlap the subject channel's spectrum. Co-Channel devices use a CSMA/CA channel access protocol to share the channel as only one device is allowed to transmit at a time. Adjacent channel interferers, which are of particular interest in 2.4Ghz networks, present as simple noise in the channel. For this reason adjacent channel interference is generally considered to me more impactful than Co-Channel interfence.
