Question:
What are Period errors in IPTV testing?
Answer:
Loss Period is defined by RFC3357. Loss Period is the length of a single loss event (number of lost packets between two successfully received packets). When the user configures their IPTV test they specify a number for Period Error. When the number of packet in a loss event exceeds this number the unit will count it as a period error. The more consecutive packets are lost the more difficult it may be for recovery mechanisms to try and compensate for the loss. This results is only possible on video streams carried over RTP.
