What is the Ethertype for Layer 2 and Layer 3 communication protocol?
By default Qulsar devices are running using Layer 3 (ptp2 port protocol udp), then the Ethertype is 0x0800. If the communication protocol is set for Layer 2 (ptp2 port protocol eth), then the Ethertype is 0x88F7. When running on Layer 2, using raw ethernet frames, any advantages of Layer 3 mechanisms to move ptp traffic (ip, routing,) will not be available. Running on Layer 2 limits ptp traffic to the local network segment. Using UDP or ipv6 allows traffic to be routed and routing introduces PDV. All the masters and slaves will also have to be configured to use the same communication protocol for the devices to synchronize.
