How can I setup my STC Virtual (STCv) ports to work with the ESXi VMware vMotion feature?
The STCv port VMs need to be modified to support vMotion. If this modification is not performed, the STCv port VMs may hang during the vMotion switchover and stop transmitting traffic. Please perform the following steps using the vSphere GUI:
Shutdown or power off the STCv port VMs that need to support vMotion:
Right click on the STCv port VM, and select "Edit Settings":
This will bring up the "Virtual Machine Properties" window. Now select the "Options" Tab:
In the "Options" Tab, select "General", now select the "Configuration Parameters" button:
This will bring up the Configuration Parameters window. Scroll down the parameters window until you find the "monitor_control.virtual_rdtsc" option. By default, it's set to "False". (you may have to resize the Name field to see the "monitor_control.virtual_rdtsc" option clearly) :
Edit this parameter and change the setting from "false" to "true":
Click "OK" to set:
Click OK again to close the "Virtual Machine Properties" window, and restart the STC port VM. vMotion shoud now switch hosts properly.
