Question:
How are the packet loss and packet jitter results derived on the MTS/TBERD IPTV applications?
Answer:
MPEG-2 transport streams are typically encapsulated within RTP or UDP IP streams. For RTP encapsulated streams in Explorer applications, packet jitter is measured using the average IP Inter-arrival time and packet loss is measured using the RTP sequence numbers. For RTP encapsulated streams in the Analyzer applications, packet jitter is measured using the RTP timestamps and packet loss using the RTP sequence numbers. For Non-RTP encapsulation in either the Explorer or Analyzer applications, packet jitter is measured using the average IP inter-arrival time and packet loss is measured using the MPEG continuity counter.
