VIAVI TestCenter: Intermittent CRC errors on DX2-100G-T12
Knowledge Base - FAQ
Issue:
• Spirent TestCenter (STC) is reporting intermittent Rx FCS errors on various ports across three DX3-100G-T12 modules. The DUT also receives a few FCS errors from STC but far less.
• Although most testing has been performed at 95% load, the issue has been seen at 30% load as well.
Frequency and amount of Rx FCS errors:
• About 1-2% of the tests contain STC reported Rx FCS errors
• Example: Out of 26,774,394 frames, there were 395 FCS errors
Test procedure:
• 512 byte frames
• power cycle DUT
• wait for links to come up
• start sequencer
• repeat
Their setup:
• DUTs
• There are several DUTs being tested.
• Transceivers:
• They look to be Aruba/HPE branded optics
• Avago 4678 = Aruba JL309A, 1990-4678
• Finisar 4680 = Aruba JL309A, 1990-4680
• Both are 100G QSFP28 MPO SR4 100m 12-fiber MPO MMF Transceiver
• Topology
STC info:
• 5.36
• DX3-100G-T12 (80-001070)
What we know:
• The "signal integrity" does not seem to be an issue here since the errors are intermittent.
• DUT ports b2b have no issues.
• STC ports b2b have no issues.
• The fiber optic cables have been cleaned to make sure that connections are clean.
• Some transceiver swapping has been performed but this seems to not be a factor since the issue is "widespread," albeit infrequent.
Other observations:
• The frames captured that have CRC errors are non-512 byte frames.
