VIAVI TestCenter: What TLVs do the Port LLDP send?
• VIAVI TestCenter sends only the Mandatory TLVs • Chassis ID TLV • Port ID TLV • Time to Live TLV • End of LLDPDU TLV • As specified in IEEE-802.1AB, the 4 TLVs above are the only Mandatory TLVs. (all other TLVs are optional) • If any optional TLVs are needed to be implemented into VIAVI TestCenter's ports LLDP messages, an enhancement request needs to be submitted. • https://ideas.VIAVI.com/ideas/ • There seem to be some devices using System Name TLV instead of the Chassis ID TLV to determine it's connecting neighbor. • You many see UNKNOWN or DISABLED in such devices. • System Name TLV is an optional TLV so if connecting devices only sending Mandatory TLVs, then it can be understood that such devices may not display the neighbor device. Update! - System Name TLV was added to VIAVI TestCenter in v5.52 and above. • Note that this article is only referring to the link layer discovery VIAVI uses on its ports. • VIAVI TestCenter also has an emulation for LLDP that does allow all the optional TLVs. • This emulation can also be used to validate what a connecting devices is using to display its neighbor information. Whether its looking for Mandatory or Optional TLVs.
