VIAVI TestCenter: When using FCoE wizard, does DCBX option need to be enabled?
When VLAN DISCOVERY” is un use, the answer to the question: Does DCBX need to be enabled? - is YES, they need DCBX enabled, and the explanation goes as follow:
Here is the basic ladder Diagram:
As you can see on the representation above, the first two messages for VLAN DISCOVERY: Request / response corresponds to packets 16 and 17, and then, the 2nd messages for FCF DISCOVERY: Request / response corresponds to packets 18 and 19 on the same pcap
Those packets 16 through 19 are DCBX packets, and all the protocols in the diagram above are usually initiated by the ENodes, so, in this specific case you will need DCBX enabled to make VLAN DISCOVERY works, by having the ENodes (STC) and the FCF (DUT) doing the “negotiation” (VLAN/FCF discovery) showed.
Finally, what the customer needs to do, is to validate if actually their device do vlan discovery, doing a capture should be suffice to validate that on their side.
