NOTE: Diagnostic Loopback behavior depends on module/card type. Some test modules may still transmit traffic on the cable (laser will be active) in addition to internally looping back. Other test modules will not transmit traffic on the cable, and will only loop traffic back.
Some of our older platforms or lower speed products treat the option as “closed loopback” as was common in legacy Ethernet PHY devices. In those products there is an external PHY device that prevented packets from being transmitted if local loopback was selected.
The 10G test market has opened up new use cases and enhanced debugging when the transmit path remains active.
