What’s meaning of the AWGN option C/N, Eb/No, C/No?
Q: What’s meaning of the AWGN option C/N, Eb/No, C/No?
A:
The power of the band-limited noise interferer relative to the carrier power may be specified in one of three ways and their definition,
carrier to noise(C/N): a ratio of carrier power to noise in the bandwidth of the receiver
carrier bit power to noise power spectral density(Eb/No): a ratio of carrier bit energy to noise power spectral density
carrier power to noise power spectral density(C/No): a ratio of carrier power to noise power spectral density
The carrier bit power and noise power in dBm can be calculated based on the following formula:
Eb (dBm/bps) = C (dBm) - 10*log10(Bit Rate (bps)) ----------Formula 1
where:
Eb = Bit power in dBm/bps
C = carrier power in dBm
Bit Rate = bit rate of the carrier
Simple understanding for this is: Eb=Ec/Data Rate, if transform to db then it goes to formula 1.
and
N (dBm) = No + 10 log10 (Receiver Bandwidth)----------- Formula 2
where:
N = noise power in the receiver bandwidth in dBm
No = noise power spectral density in dBm/Hz
Receiver Bandwidth = carrier bandwidth in Hz
Simple understanding for this is: N=No*bandwidth, if transform to db then it goes to formula 2.
